Drew A. Dutton, age 80, passed away on March 23, 2021 peacefully at his home in Boca Raton, FL. He had been a resident of Berwyn PA for over 40 years.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Linda Harrison Dutton, his daughter Kimberly and husband John Hildebrand, son Scott and wife Janice Dutton, daughter Andrea and husband Jeff Janiszewski, his grandchildren Kaitlin, Charlie, Steven and Bryn Hildebrand and Harrison, Emma and Nate Dutton, twin brother L. Garrett Dutton Jr. Gary, his wife Mary Jane Mike, his sister Blair Wyatt and husband Dennis Berry, nieces, nephews and friends.
Drew was born in Rochester, NY to loving parents Lewis G. and Elizabeth A. Dutton. He had a wonderful childhood in Springfield, OH and attended Springfield High School. Drew was a member of the Varsity Golf team, and he loved to recall the day when he was a medalist at the state regional tournament in Columbus Ohio. There was another golfer in the field that day, his name was Jack Nicklaus. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While at Miami, he competed on the Varsity golf team and was a very proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Linda and Drew met at Miami and married in 1962.
Drew spent 3 years as an officer in the Air Force before starting his career with DuPont in 1966. He held various sales and marketing management positions within the Teflon and Corian divisions. He was very proud to remind us that he never took a sick day during his 38 year career. He earned many awards, most notable was the Marketing Excellence Award in 1992. Drew retired in 2005.
As a result of spending a high school summer with his brother in the Grand Teton National Park, his love of nature blossomed. Upon retirement, Drew spent the majority of his time volunteering with many organizations including: Stargazers Winery, Valley Forge National Park, John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge and Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach, FL. Drew was proud of his contributions to these organizations and his role in beautifying the grounds.
Drew was an enthusiastic follower of all Philadelphia sports teams as well as professional golf; watching, listening to sports talk radio and front to back daily reading of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He loved watching these sporting events, sometimes live but very often would tape, aka DVR them for later enjoyment in the evenings. He firmly instructed family members and others to not prematurely divulge the results to him which became a running jokeneedless to say it was not so amusing to him!
Drew was an avid golfer, gardener, bike rider and supporter of the National Park System. He was a self-proclaimed professional grass cutter, and took tremendous pride in taking care of his yard, the grass was often cut multiple time per week, no joke! He just loved being out in nature, especially the spring which was his favorite season.
Drew served for 16 years on the board of the HOA of their Florida residential community. He maintained special relationships with lifelong friends from high school, college and DuPont.
Drew and Linda have been members of Waynesborough Country club for over 38 years. He and his family enjoyed playing golf, tennis, paddle tennis and so many special events over the years, birthday dinners, milestone anniversaries, Christmas Eve Brunch and family weddings.
It is an understatement to say that Drew was devoted to his family. He loved talking to his children daily, often multiple times a day. No matter what was asked of him, Drew was there. He always answered the phone, dropped anything to help, offered counsel when asked.
Drew passed so many values and qualities down to his family: work ethic, charm, understanding, sense of humor, dedication, integrity, thoughtfulness, calmness under pressure and honesty.
The legacy and memories Drew leaves will always be treasured by those who loved him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Drew to be held on Monday May 24th at 11am at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.
Contributions in Drews memory may be made to the Friends of the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge.
