On Monday, January 27, Margaret Emma (Morrill) Negro passed away peacefully in her sleep. Margaret was born in Philadelphia on August 7, 1925, to the late Harry Morrill and Louise Kate (Wolf) Morrill. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ralph Morrill and Ethel (Laisi) Morrill.
In 1952, Margaret married the late John Joseph Negro. Together, they had six wonderful children: Joseph John Negro (Paula Vogt), Harry John Negro (Jill Halper), John Mark Negro (Susan Davis), Matthew John Negro (Suzanne Dolshun), Donna Louise Negro (Shires), and Stephen John Negro. Her children blessed her with 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Margaret was full of zest and always lived in the moment during her younger years. Her life was filled with travel, dancing (where she met her husband), working as a bookkeeper, and serving in the Navy Reserves, which she joined in 1951.
Age never slowed Margaret down, and her youthful spirit never waned. Not long ago, she amazed everyone with her artistic talent as a student at Holy Family College, Philadelphia Community College, and local art camps. Art was both her passion and her gift.
At 99, if she wasn’t winning card games, reading the newspaper, or having dinner with friends, she could be found wheeling around her building, always on the move. Her sparkling eyes and warm smile greeted everyone she encountered, leaving a lasting impression on all who met her.
In her passing, Margaret has left a profound void in the hearts of many. The beautiful memories of a wise, strong, and incredibly courageous woman remind us that life is about living fully, not grieving endlessly.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate the life of Margaret at her viewing, which will be held on Thursday, January 30th, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 5600 Jackson Street. Please note that entry to the church parking lot is accessible via the driveway off Cheltenham Avenue, with entrance through the rear of the church. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM, with interment taking place at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
