Our beloved Mother, MomMom, Great-MomMom and Wife, Patricia Torres, passed away on November 11, 2024, after a long brave battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 76.
Born in Philadelphia to the late Daniel and Eleanor Purdy (nee Farrell), Patty graduated from Little Flower, class of 1966. Patty started her career in healthcare working in both respiratory and pulmonary departments at Einstein Hospital. As a single mom of three, with a passion to learn, she returned to school, attaining a degree in nursing in 1992 from Helene Fuld College of Nursing. Patty retired as a Nurse from Temple University’s Hospital Heart & Lung Transplant Center, having cared for patients long term, she developed deep connections, and this was very apparent from a few that spoke at her retirement brunch.
Patty was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. She loved the Flyers, the Eagles but ultimately her Phillies. She almost passed out holding her breath at the 2009 NLCS game to go to the World Series. Patty loved reading, crossword puzzles, and rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy. She enjoyed countless trips to the shore, taught her family to love sunrises, dancing in the rain, and taught her family that a rainy day at the shore was most definitely better than a sunny day at home.
Patty held a fierce love of family, spending time with them, would do anything to help others. She loved all things Irish. Life was best lived with family, friends, parties, fun. A true believer in celebrating life. She will be missed dearly.
Patty is survived by her beloved husband, Francis ‘Chico’ Torres; her children Brian (Geri) Convery, Donna (Bill) Hill, Daniel (Kristin) Convery, Alisa (Mike) Schultz, Patrick (Paul) Torres, Fran Torres; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; her sister Linda Convery and many nieces and nephews.
Please join us for a celebration of her life at her viewing on Saturday November 16th from 9 AM to 10 AM in St. Martin of Tours Church 5450 E. Roosevelt Boulevard. Please use the parking lot entrance around back to enter the church. Her funeral mass will begin 10 AM and her burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
